Our Family Estates
Two generations of passion, soil stewardship, and artisanal cinnamon craft in Southern Sri Lanka.
Kalutara & Ambalangoda Estates
Uduwara Spices operates across two primary family-owned agricultural estates situated in Kalutara and Ambalangoda within the Southern Province of Sri Lanka.
This region offers the world's finest natural habitat for Cinnamomum verum — characterized by tropical sunshine, iron-rich well-drained soil, and warm coastal breezes from the Indian Ocean.
[INSERT: 2–3 sentence founding story / how long the family has been growing cinnamon, e.g., "Founded over three decades ago by the Uduwara family, our estates began with a commitment to preserving traditional Sri Lankan spice cultivation while introducing modern batch traceability."]
From Tree to Export Shipment
1. Selective Harvesting
Stems are harvested early in the morning when the sap is flowing freely, allowing the bark to separate cleanly from the wood core without damaging the plant's root system.
2. Master Hand-Peeling
Master peelers scrape away the tough outer cork layer, then carefully shave off the paper-thin inner bark (0.1–0.3 mm) using traditional brass knives (*koketta*).
3. Natural Sun Curing
Multiple thin bark strips are nested inside one another to form a solid quill roll, then slow-cured in shaded, well-ventilated drying sheds under tropical sun.
